About Edible Theology

Who We Are

At Edible Theology, we want to see a world where everyone finds joy, community, and healing at the table. Because we believe that's why God created us to eat in the first place.

We offer liturgies, kitchen accessories, books, and small group studies to help Christians meet God, and one another, in the kitchen and at the table.

Our Story

Edible Theology began in 2018 as a simple monthly newsletter by Kendall Vanderslice, sharing her emerging research on bread and the table while a theology student at Duke University. The business has taken many iterations over the years, offering virtual and in-person workshops, digital communities, curriculum, and more.

In 2025, Edible Theology launched its first line of physical products—expanding our footprint beyond simply education. Our goal is to create tools that can help others reflect on God's presence every time they set to work in the kitchen.

Commitment to Ecumenism

Here at Edible Theology, we are committed to creating resources that honor the great diversity of Christ's church—believing that God gave us a table at the center of Christian worship to mark our unity in Christ's body. Ironically, this very meal has been the source of so much theological division. While the Communion table remains divided, our daily tables and our daily bread are means by which we can foster curiosity about these differences. In all of our materials, we hold to the Christian faith as expressed in the Nicene Creed—the shared declaration of Christians for 1700 years.
